Poultex 10's (4 x 10cm x 10cm)
An invaluable, next generation, multi-purpose dressing aid for use in the treatment of most diseases, injuries and conditions of the skin, leg and associated tissues of horses and other large animals. Produced, designed and evolved through fifteen years of experience, pharmaceutical knowledge and dressing design skills.

Pad construction.
There are no open edges, the whole pad structure is completely sealed with an outer layer of soft non-woven material which provides the skin contact surface with low adherent properties - to prevent damaging wounds on removal and protects sensitive skin conditions. The completely enclosed structure eliminates entry of contamination and retains fluids and active ingredients within. The outermost surface (back) of the pad is clearly indicated by a green line and seam.

Under the contact surface is a layer of white surgical lint BP to provide strength and ease of handling when used wet, as well as absorbing and holding away pus or infected secretions. It also enhances the drawing activity.

The main absorbent body also acting as the cushioning protective layer, is composed of a thick layer of super absorbent pure cotton wool fibres, again to maximise the strength, absorption, fluid retention and poulticing properties.
Within the main absorbent layer is :-
Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose, a natural plant derived poulticing and gelling agent in fine granular form, which when used or activated by controlled amounts of water draws out abscesses, infected wounds, pus and dirt. This gel also helps the Dressing pad retain more water increasing the duration and capacity for activity and assists in the heat or cold retention performance.
Natural Sea Salt, which when dissolving in the water within the Poultex™ pad is sufficient to form a normal saline (isotonic strength - no sting) solution, as well as enhancing the poulticing properties, it has well known cleansing, healing and tissue stimulating properties.

The final layer is a polyethylene sealed foam insulation membrane, which prevents leak through of blood or exudates collected and assists in reducing evaporation to further improve heat or cold retention. This foam structure also adds to Poultex’s overall physical tensile and cushioning performance.

PREPARATION
Ensure all treatment areas have been cleaned thoroughly. Leverton’s instant sterile WOUNDWASH™ is a convenient flushing solution for all wounds. Choose the appropriate size pad and follow the instructions on the enclosed reusable activator bag.

APPLICATION
Ensure the temperature of the Poultex™ pad is acceptable to your own skin before your horses. Remember hot and cold extremes are dangerous. Apply Poultex pads with the green line to the outside. Smooth down firmly and mould to under laying contours. Ensure the pad does not overlap itself and that there are no creases which might form pressure points after bandaging.

BANDAGING POULTEX® IN PLACE
Never bandage too tightly especially by overstretching elasticated bandages. If the bandage is applied too tightly circulation can be seriously restricted. Always apply any bandage at an even pressure.

LIMBS
Leverton’s LEVAWRAP™ cohesive bandages are generally highly suitable for most situations.

HOOVES
Leverton’s ECONOBAND™ (elastic adhesive bandage) is particularly robust and suitable for holding dressings on the foot, hoof and other awkward places.

TURNING OUT
For further peace of mind Leverton’s Levatape/Aquatape (strapping tapes) may be used over the bandage.
